Class 4 Laser Therapy for Dogs & Cats in Singapore
Class 4 therapeutic laser for dogs and cats at RehabVet Singapore — a non-invasive way to ease pain, calm inflammation, and support tissue healing during rehab.
A calm, non-invasive tool that helps your pet’s body settle pain and repair tissue
Class 4 therapeutic laser (also called photobiomodulation) delivers focused light energy into soft tissue, joints, and deeper structures. At RehabVet, we use it as part of veterinary rehabilitation — not as a standalone “miracle cure,” and not as a replacement for diagnosis, surgery when needed, or carefully prescribed medication.
Compared with lower-powered lasers, Class 4 devices can deliver therapeutic doses more efficiently to deeper tissues. Sessions are typically short, quiet, and well tolerated by both dogs and cats when delivered by a trained therapist with appropriate eye protection and dosing.
No needles, no sedation for routine laser sessions, and no general anaesthesia. Useful when you want additional pain and inflammation support alongside other therapies.
02
Deep tissue reach
Higher power allows meaningful energy delivery to muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joint regions that superficial treatments may not reach as effectively.
03
Short, calm sessions
Most treatment sites take only a few minutes. Pets often stay relaxed on a mat while the therapist moves the probe steadily over the target area.
04
Pairs well with other modalities
Laser is frequently combined with manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, electrotherapy, or hydrotherapy as part of a measured rehab plan.
How Class 4 Laser Works
Light energy, cellular response — explained in plain language
Therapeutic laser light is absorbed by cells in the treated area. In clinical rehabilitation, the goals are practical: help reduce local inflammation, ease pain signalling, support circulation to recovering tissue, and create better conditions for healing after injury or surgery.
01
Pain modulation
Laser therapy can help calm irritated nerve endings and support the release of the body’s own comfort chemicals. Many pets move more willingly after a course of sessions — especially when pain has been limiting exercise.
02
Inflammation support
By influencing local inflammatory signalling and blood flow, laser may help settle swollen, hot, or reactive tissues after acute injury or post-operative flare.
03
Tissue repair environment
Improved local circulation and cellular activity can support soft-tissue repair. We still progress exercise carefully — laser supports recovery; it does not replace controlled loading.
04
Dose matters
Effective treatment depends on wavelength, power, time, and the size and depth of the area. Our therapists dose for your pet’s species, coat, condition, and treatment goals — not a one-size-fits-all “zap.”
Good to know
Important: Laser therapy is not appropriate over active tumours, certain eye regions, or some other contraindicated sites. Every RehabVet patient is screened before treatment, and we coordinate with your primary vet when needed.
Who Class 4 Laser Helps
Common reasons Singapore pet owners ask about laser therapy
01
Osteoarthritis & joint stiffness
Senior dogs and cats with aching hips, elbows, or spines often use laser as part of multimodal comfort care — alongside weight management, exercise, and other modalities. See our guide to osteoarthritis in dogs.
02
Soft-tissue strains & tendon issues
Sprains, strains, and tendon irritation may benefit from laser to settle pain and support healing while the rehab plan rebuilds strength and control.
03
Post-surgical recovery
After orthopaedic or soft-tissue surgery, laser can help manage post-operative discomfort and support tissue recovery once your surgeon and rehab team confirm it is safe to start.
04
Spinal & neurological support
Pets recovering from IVDD or other spinal conditions may receive laser as one element of a broader programme that also includes exercise, proprioception work, and sometimes hydrotherapy.
05
Wound & skin healing support
In selected cases, laser may be used to support healing of surgical sites, hot spots, or chronic skin irritation — always with veterinary oversight and clear goals.
06
Athletic & working dogs
Active dogs recovering from sports strain may use laser to settle reactive tissues so they can return to progressive conditioning safely.
Next Step
Not sure if laser is right for your pet?
A rehabilitation assessment identifies whether Class 4 laser belongs in your pet’s plan — and which other modalities will help most.
Calm rooms, clear communication, and a therapist who watches your pet’s comfort the whole time
01
1. Review & site selection
Your therapist reviews recent findings, palpates carefully, and chooses treatment sites based on your pet’s diagnosis and today’s presentation — not a fixed script.
02
2. Safety setup
Protective eyewear is used for staff (and owners if they stay close). The laser probe is kept in continuous motion over the treatment area at the prescribed distance and speed.
03
3. Treatment (often 5–20 minutes)
Duration depends on the condition, the size of the area, and how many sites need care. Most pets tolerate the warm, gentle sensation well; many settle quickly.
04
4. Integrate with the rest of rehab
Laser is often paired the same day with manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, or other modalities. You leave with clear home-care guidance for the next 24–48 hours.
Laser Therapy for Dogs and Cats
Same technology — different handling, dosing, and expectations
Dogs commonly receive laser for arthritis, post-operative joints, spinal pain, and soft-tissue injury. Sessions usually fit comfortably into a wider physiotherapy visit.
Cats can benefit too — especially for arthritis, spinal discomfort, and post-operative support — but feline care prioritises short sessions, quiet handling, and low stress. We never force a cat through a protocol they cannot tolerate. Learn more about our cat physiotherapy approach.
How Laser Fits a Rehab Plan
Laser is a modality inside a programme — not the whole programme
Book a veterinary rehabilitation assessment at our Serangoon Road clinic. We’ll explain whether Class 4 laser belongs in your pet’s plan — in clear, measured language.
Clear answers for Singapore pet owners considering Class 4 laser
Class 4 laser therapy is a veterinary rehabilitation modality that uses higher-powered therapeutic light (photobiomodulation) to help reduce pain and inflammation and support tissue healing. At RehabVet, it is delivered by trained therapists as part of a supervised rehab plan for dogs and cats.
Most pets find Class 4 laser comfortable. They may feel gentle warmth over the treatment area. We monitor body language continuously and adjust technique if a pet seems unsettled. Routine laser sessions do not require sedation.
Treatment time depends on the size of the area and number of sites, but many individual sites take only a few minutes. A typical contribution within a rehab visit is often in the 5–20 minute range. Your therapist will explain the plan for your pet’s condition.
It varies. Acute injuries or post-operative plans may use a short cluster of sessions. Chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis often benefit from a course followed by maintenance as needed. Frequency is set after assessment and adjusted based on measured progress — not a fixed “package promise.”
Yes, when dosed and handled appropriately. Cats often do best with quieter rooms, shorter sessions, and careful restraint. We only continue if your cat tolerates the visit well. For feline-first pathways, see our cat physiotherapy service page.
No. Laser may help reduce discomfort and support healing, and sometimes it helps pets rely less on medication over time — but that decision belongs to your veterinary team. Surgery, when indicated, is not replaced by laser therapy.
Yes. Common cautions include active tumours in the treatment field, certain eye exposures, and some other clinical contraindications. We screen every patient and will skip or modify laser when it is not appropriate.
You can book a rehabilitation assessment directly. We also welcome referrals from primary vets. Bring recent clinical notes or imaging if you have them — they help us plan safely.

We believe that slowly but surely, Milo will make a full recovery. Never give up!
